VERB "TO BE"

The verb to be is one of the most chameleonic in English, so its meaning often depends on the context in which you find it.

 Goals: 

  • Learn the use and basic conjugations of the verb "to be" in English.

Use and conjugation of the verb "to be"





I am – (Yo soy o estoy)
You are (Tú eres o estás)
He / She is (Él / Ella es o está)
It is (Ello es o está)
We are (Nosotros somos o estamos)
They are (Ellos son o están)
Examples:

Simple Present
  • I am a student. (Soy estudiante.)
  • She is my best friend. (Ella es mi mejor amiga.)
  • We are from Mexico. (Somos de México.)
  • They are happy. (Ellos están felices.)
Simple past:
  • He was tired yesterday. (Él estaba cansado ayer.)
  • You were late for the meeting. (Llegaste tarde a la reunión.)
  • The weather was nice last week. (El clima estaba agradable la semana pasada.)
Simple Future:
  • We will be at the party tonight. (Estaremos en la fiesta esta noche.)
  • She will be a doctor in the future. (Ella será doctora en el futuro.)
  • They will be happy together. (Serán felices juntos.)
